If you know me, you know I love to decorate and redecorate! We have lived in our house for 8 years and till this day we are still renovating it, repainting it and change it. One of the things that I'm so grateful for is that my husband is so supportive of my ideas and is also very handy and loves to get things done fast. We remodeled our kitchen a few years ago because let's face it, for 5 years I had only ONE drawer (not sure what the previous tenants were thinking). When we redid the kitchen I was pregnant with Chloe and it was a very long process that took a few months, but I can safely say that it was So worth it because I can't even remember what our old kitchen looked like and I'm oh so happy with this one!
When it came to the living room, I was going through the grey phase, where the walls had to be grey, so did the couches and everything in between. I had added a few accent colours here and there but nothing major. Let me tell you, this living room set lasted us a long time, 7 years to be exact and it was time for a change because as you know, kids don't really care about keeping the couch and rug nice and clean and they had become pretty worn out from all the cleaning and scrubbing.
Here's a look at the BEFORE:
Another reason I wanted a change is because the living room always looked so dark and gloomy because of all the grey and black that took up all the space. So what's the first thing to do to make a room look more spacious? Paint it white of course. White paint is the perfect canvas for any decor, style and colour. You can never go wrong with white, because it's also so easy to maintain and it enhances natural light in a room.
I did a ton of research for the best couch out there, and while I looked on Pinterest for inspiration, I still couldn't find the exact idea I had in mind. So I decided to check out Structube. I had been in the store before but not when I was working on this project so I didn't have an idea of what to expect. Long story short, we fell in love with their furniture, their styles and prices. I have to admit it was hard to pick the perfect couch because they had so many that were, well, perfect.
In the end, we chose this
couch for the following reasons : its slim not bulky, modern, the exact colour we were looking for, has wooden legs (I really wanted that) and the best part, you can easily wipe spills with a cloth and a bit of water (that was one of the major things I worried about, because let's face it, I did not want to get an expensive couch and have to wipe it and scrub it and "shout" it until the fabric wore out again).
My second favourite part is this
marble table that we also purchased from Structube. It was so modern and gorgeous, simple and elegant.
The dining room table was one piece that we got lucky with because it actually went so well with the couch and with our hardwood floors. We completed the set with the matching bench and
fabric chairs, I love them because they also have the wooden arms. The table is currently unavailable on their website but I have linked
this one which is similar in style and
this one which is similar in colour.
The
light is from Rona, we got it on sale for 20% off at the time. The 2 mirrors are from Homesense, I bought them as a pair for an incredible price, $29.99!
One night I went to a Homesense location that I've never been to before and I found my end tables as soon as I walked in. I was so happy when I found them because I was stressing over what I would match not only with the couch but with the dining table as well. Luckily these beauties turned out to be the same shade as the table, and they were only $80 each. I found the same ones on
Wayfair and I cannot believe the price for them, I also linked a few similar styles. My cushions and lamps , also from Homesense, I'm so thrilled with them because of the blue that can be found in the rug as well.
My rug, which I'm obsessed with, I also found it at Homesense on a random trip, I was looking for a bigger one but I settled for the smaller size because you know the rule, if you see something you like at Winners or Homesense buy it because if you come back the next day, it will be gone and you'll never see it again (I learned the hard way).
The last 2 items we added were these grey accent chairs from the Brick. They were on clearance sale, I wasn't able to find the link to them, but I did find a similar
style
Lastly, I always get questions about the paintings I chose. These are very special to me because, just like everything else in this project, I went on so many trips to Homesense, Winners, Bouclair, etc to find them, but I just could not find anything I wanted, none of them "felt" right. So I decided to check Etsy and after a bit of research I finally found
them. (This artist is currently having a sale 20-40% off).
This is a great tip for any room in your house or office, if you're looking for a poster, painting, canvas, check Etsy. There are so many artists that sell you a link to download the piece you choose, and they come in a variety of sizes, all you need to do is print them (Costco, or Walmart) and frame them. I purchased my frames from
Ikea, but make sure to check the size of the painting to get the correct frame size.
Fast forward to today, I'm beyond thrilled with my new living room. Even though I'm still missing a few pieces that I really haven't been able to find, I love how it all came together so well and made the room so much bigger, wider and more inviting. Also, Homesense is a life saver, I miss it so much!
